Featured in The Wall Street Journal

Among other notable press features, MDClone was featured in The Wall Street Journal for its early impact on the COVID-19 pandemic through its ability to create synthetic data. By pooling information from various health organizations across Israel, researchers were able to quickly glean insights about the novel coronavirus. The COVID pandemic accelerated the demand for innovative, collaborative technologies, such as synthetic data.

“Medical researchers and data scientists say such “synthetic” healthcare data has the potential to speed up medical innovation. The rapid digitization of health records has created troves of patient information that can be analyzed by algorithms and harnessed to improve disease-treatment models and develop new products and services. But patient information isn’t easy to get because privacy laws require medical data to be stripped of names, addresses and other identifying details before it can be shared, a time-consuming process that can take months. Even those measures don’t satisfy some privacy advocates, who point to studies showing that it is possible to re-identify patients even after data sets have been anonymized. Enter synthetic data technology.”

Expanded the MDClone Footprint in Canada

In May, MDClone expanded it’s Canadian partnerships to include the Jewish General Hospital (JGH),a member facility of the Integrated Health and Social Services University Network for West-Central Montreal (CIUSSS) announced today that it now has access to MDClone’s sophisticated healthcare data analytics platform. The partnership, which includes all 34 facilities of the CIUSSS, will improve the health of patients, solve operational challenges, and enable collaboration worldwide.

CIUSSS West-Central Montreal and the JGH are known for cutting edge research and innovative approaches to patient care. The MDClone ADAMS Platform removes lengthy delays associated with traditional analytics, while safeguarding patient privacy. Researchers, clinicians, and other authorized users can now explore data without assistance from IT analysts, reducing project timelines from many months to a few days.

Celebrated a Successful Pilot Program and Continued Partnership

In November, MDClone was thrilled to expand the partnership with The Ottawa Hospital, one of Canada’s largest learning and research hospitals. Training courses, both in-person and virtual, increased the knowledge and education of the self-service data tools, boosting the platform’s user base to over 200 healthcare clinicians. Many of the users have already been certified in the platform, allowing The Ottawa Hospital the ability to expand a set of defined use cases while protecting patient privacy through synthetic data.

Through the ADAMS Platform, users can obtain institutional clinical data to inform study design and analysis while working independently. With self-service data access accelerating discoveries and better solutions to patient care, users can develop a broader understanding of the data available for exploration. Analysis, interpretation of findings, and insights are generated rapidly through shortened timelines and approval processes.

The Ottawa Hospital plans to further its data efforts throughout multiple use cases including elective surgery outcomes, emergency hospitalization predictability, and preoperative anemia.

Revealed $50M+ Potential Savings at Intermountain Healthcare with a 20x Return on Investment

With a mission to radically transform both patient care and financial performance, Intermountain focused on placing data exploration directly into the hands of researchers and clinicians. Heavily focused on quality, population health, and value-based care, Intermountain realized that innovation was critical to organizational success, investing in technology and training to ensure success.

In just three months, MDClone organized over 15 years of fragmented patient data from Cerner’s EMR platform, SelectHealth claims, external labs, and three legacy platforms to compose more than seven million patient histories. This breadth of data greatly enriched Intermountain’s ability to surface insights and guide decision-making.

With over 100 users, 200+ projects in progress, and 90 use cases completed, Intermountain has revealed $50M+ potential savings through improved care pathways, performance improvement, and best practices.

Powered Ground-breaking NIH N3C Research

Research powered by MDClone was spotlighted at the 2021 Annual Symposium of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), held in San Diego, Calif., in early November.

The ground-breaking research related to the COVID-19 pandemic further validates the use of synthetic data in real-world use cases.

Three abstracts were accepted to the Symposium and presented to informatics leaders from across the world at last month’s event. The research described cutting-edge COVID-19 research through the use of synthetic data and was presented in partnership with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Washington University in St. Louis.

These presentations highlighted the broad application of the technology in Informatics and made it clear that the use of synthetic data from MDClone creates myriad discovery opportunities. MDClone has firmly established itself as a key player in the Informatics community.

Validated Synthetic Data vs Original Data Performance Through Research

For each case, “the results of the synthetic data analyses successfully mimicked those of the original data such that the distributions of the data were similar and the predictive models demonstrated comparable performance.”

In October, a research paper was published utilizing the NIH N3C’s instance of MDClone to download electronic health record data to test three use cases. After exploring key features, testing predictive models, and determining outcomes, results were compared to synthetic data. Results determined that synthetic data successfully mimicked analyses of the original data, validating comparable performance.
